Katie is a letterpress artist with over 10 years of experience in the art of print. Her multi-layered linoleum block prints focus on floral and nature themes inspired by her northwest home. She is best known for her vibrant color palette and enjoys studying and experimenting with the language of color. Most recently she has started to incorporate figures, which stem from a desire to tell a more complex story with her work. She is actively involved with the art community in Tacoma by participating as a vendor in local shows, a volunteer for events, and a hostess for studio tours.
“I love to create. I have a passion for expressing life…any way to share the common journey we all travel together, be it bumpy or smooth. Living is beautiful and challenging. I want to squeeze out every moment and utilize it for expression. I get a thrill in seeing others do the same, and believe expressing and sharing ideas enhances joy. As of late, the main themes that are showing up in my work are a return to true self, a search for meaning, redemption, and recovery through sobriety.”
“Early in my artistic journey, I used the computer for most of my work since I have a background in graphic design. When I became a young mom, I started to miss using my hands for creating and threw myself into carving blocks from my drawings instead of scanning in the computer and tracing. I started to see the potential of combining the two and now I use the block printing as my main technique for creating fine art and then use the digital tools to turn pieces into greeting cards and fabrics.”
