Fred Buxton

I have dabbled in painting and drawing over the years. A demanding career and busy family life got in the way of fully exploring my creativity. I retired from a career in the Federal Government in 2011 and was introduced to kiln formed fused glass in 2014. After my first glass project, I knew I had found my creative medium and have been doing fused glass art ever since. In 2016, I opened Raining Sunshine Glass Studio where I pursue my passion and teach classes in kiln formed glass. Although I am primarily a self-taught artist, I have learned as much as possible about kiln formed glass through books, online classes, and membership in several online groups including Fused Glass Fanatics and Fused Glass Org. I have also been learning advanced techniques through formal classes with some of the best fused glass artists in the nation, including Michael Dupille, Ann Cavanaugh, and Donna Sarafis.

I did my first solo show as the featured Artist at the UP for Arts Concert and Art Show in University Place in October 2017.

I specialize in Pacific Northwest landscapes and subject matter. I strive to integrate depth, texture, and the feel of our unique environment into my fused glass art. My primary influences are some of the masters and pioneers of kiln formed fused glass, including Michael Dupille, Donna Sarafis, Richard Parrish, Linda Humphrey, and Paul Messink.
